The morning air was crisp as Huisha paced. A little frost left on the grass from the night before crushed delicately under his careless hooves as he moved. Crunch, crunch, crunch.
He glanced over at Lady Mór. Momo. The love of his life. She was nestled into the little root den, snug and warm. The contractions had started just a little while ago. It wouldn’t be long, she said. Their little baby would soon join them in the world.

He woke slowly, enjoying the feel of the sun caressing his back despite the light frost that still clung to the blades of grass all around. With careful skill wrought of practice he avoided opening his eyes, just taking the time to enjoy the rare confluence of the refreshing chill breeze and the sun’s warm embrace.
Stretching out his muscles from the stiffness of sleeping in the cold, he could feel Lady Mor’s warmth at his side. It had taken a long time- forever it felt like- to grow accustomed to having her there at his side as he slept, and it never failed to bring a smile to his face and his heart.
Huisha was leaning into Mor playfully to see if she was awake when an unexpected “peep” startled his eyes wide open.
